We are committed to leading the integration of the bio and forest industries on the path to a sustainable, innovation-driven future. Responding to global challenges is never an easy task, but we firmly believe that we can make a meaningful contribution. Our Biofore strategy guides us in this mission, with the UPM Code of Conduct as the cornerstone of everything that we do.
Building a sustainable future
Responding to global challenges – Our Biofore Strategy
Our Biofore strategy is based on the versatile use of renewable wood biomass, driven by a commitment to innovation, resource efficiency and responsibility. Our strategy is a response to some of the biggest challenges facing the world today, such as resource scarcity, climate change, loss of biodiversity, and depletion of clean water. Our strategic focus also enables us to seize emerging opportunities.
Every choice matters - The UPM Code of Conduct
Our Code of Conduct is the heart of everything we do. It applies to all employees, ensuring that we all act with integrity at all times. It covers everything from legal compliance and disclosure, conflicts of interest and anti-bribery to human resources practices, human rights and environmental matters.
International agreements
UPM is committed to the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Salient issues relevant to our business include environmental pollution, occupational health and safety, working conditions, protection of children, and forced labour. We do not tolerate child labour or discrimination based on ethnic origin, age, nationality, gender or sexual orientation. We assign special importance to the rights of children, minorities, migrant workers and indigenous people.
We promote the UN Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The SDGs most relevant to UPM are Goal 6 (Clean water and sanitation), Goal 7 (Affordable and clean energy), Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), Goal 13 (Climate Action) and Goal 15 (Life on Land).
We are signatories of the UN Global Compact and endorse its ten principles relating to human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.
UPM additionally respects international agreements such as the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises.
