We believe that sharing information openly benefits both us and our customers. Our product declarations tell our customers about the environmental performance of our products, helping them make sustainable choices.
We believe that sharing information openly benefits both us and our customers. Our product declarations tell our customers about the environmental performance of our products, helping them make sustainable choices.
We provide our customers with easy access to any information they might need concerning the sustainability of our products and supply chain. We offer product declarations and environmental data for most of our products.
UPM is developing product profiles to cover all relevant aspects of the environmental performance of our biomass-based products. The product profiles are being developed to meet distinct user needs, such as for checking the absence of hazardous chemicals, the use of renewable or non-renewable resources, the potential environmental impact for a selected impact category, or suitable ways to recycle/reuse the product at the end of its lifespan.
The environmental impacts reported in the product profiles are based on ISO standardized Life Cycle Analysis (ISO 14040 “Environmental management – Life cycle assessment – Principles and framework” and ISO 14044 “Environmental management – Life cycle assessment – Requirements and guidelines”).
Certified management systems help us to manage and improve our performance in the areas of environment, health and safety, energy and quality.
The majority of UPM’s production sites, as well as its wood-sourcing operations, are covered by environmental, quality and occupational health and safety systems which are certified in accordance with the ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO45001 standards. The ISO50001 Energy system is in place at our Central European paper mills and UPM Pulp mills. EES+ (Energy Efficiency System+) at our Finnish paper mills.
Read more about our management systems here.
Our environmental product declarations for pulp specify the environmental certifications of our pulp mills and raw materials, and present key facts on process emissions, product characteristics and forms of energy consumption at the mills.
Product-specific carbon footprint calculations are also included in the Pulp Profile declaration.
UPM provides product-specific information on the environmental performance of its paper products through Paper Profile, a voluntary environmental product declaration scheme developed by leading paper producers.
Paper Profile covers the environmental impact of pulp and paper production, including product composition and emissions, wood procurement and environmental management.
In addition to the Paper Profiles, UPM provides carbon footprint information on its paper products.
For our plywood products, we provide environmental product declarations including information on environmental management systems, environmental parameters, product features as well as on the use of heat and electricity.
UPM calculates the carbon footprint of its timber products on the basis of the 10 elements of the Carbon Footprint Framework for Paper and Board Products developed by CEPI (the Confederation of European Paper Industries).
Product profiles are available for UPM ProFi products in Certificate Finder and for UPM Formi products on request.
